The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be available with one of six different engines, including an all-new diesel option that arrives early next year. But just as exciting as the new diesel entrant is the ultra-efficient 2.7-liter Turbo engine available for the Silverado 1500.
This four-cylinder engine will power Silverado 1500 LT and RST models, cranking out 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. That is a 22% increase in torque compared to the outgoing 4.3-liter V6 engine that this turbo powertrain will be replacing; the engine is also 380 lbs lighter than the outgoing engine.
The new 2019 Silverado engine also features a double overhead cam valvetrain, which means the engine utilizes continuously variable valve timing, high- and low-lift valve profiles, and Active Fuel Management, which marks the first time that Chevy has expanded that technology to a four-cylinder engine.
“The new 2.7-liter Turbo is a technological marvel, with our most advanced valvetrain,” remarked Tom Sutter, chief engineer for the 2.7-liter Turbo. “With a broad, flat torque curve and quick throttle response, it punches above its weight, delivering surprising performance and efficiency.”
The engine will also boast an integrated exhaust manifold, a dual-volute turbocharger housing, Active Thermal Management, stop/start technology, and an electric water pump to eliminate drag and improve efficiency.
