The World’s Friendliest Vehicle

The 2017 Chevrolet Volt, Chevrolet’s extended range PHEV, has been named to the 2017 Wards 10 Best Engines for the second year in a row and the third time overall, adding to Chevy’s already long list of industry recognitions for the new model year.

The 2017 Volt has better range and fuel economy than ever, using a two-motor system and an 18.4kWh battery pack, plus an Ecotec range extender to offer outstanding performance. The Volt’s 53-mile electric range, 106 MPGe, and 420 miles of overall driving range have let Volt drivers save 58 million gallons of gas since the first-generation Volt was released. Chevy estimates that drivers stay in EV mode about 80% of the time.

WardsAuto Senior Content Director Drew Winter praised the Volt’s propulsion system for its “torquey, fun-to-drive personality,” as well as its “flexibility in unequaled in the automotive world,” saying that the Volt has one of the “most unique and innovative propulsion systems ever mass-produced.”

At a starting price at $33,220, the Chevy Volt offers not only excellent range but fun performance at 149 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. The Volt’s innovative safety features, including standard Teen Driver mode and available active safety features, made the 2017 Volt an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
